Supervision
Safeguarding supervision provides specialist professional advice, oversight of the management of the child and family's needs, and support to health practitioners within Community Health Services with their duty to safeguard children. It also supports health practitioners to utilise evidence based practice and adhere to Trust, Local Safeguarding Children's Board and Government policies and procedures relating to safeguarding practice (Skills for Care and CWDC, 2007).
Face to face supervision is designed to provide health practitioners who manage children's caseloads with the opportunity to reflect on aspects of their safeguarding practice in order to develop experience and expertise. Each locality base has an allocated locality SCSN who provides supervision and support. The sessions are always one to one, face to face and follow strict timescales. The aims of the supervision sessions are to provide case management, restorative supervision, to ensure that the plans in place to safeguard children are progressing and to provide practitioners with an opportunity to reflect on the case in a non-judgemental, supportive environment.
In addition for staff groups and teams who have some contact with children but don't have direct caseload responsibility the team offer regular group supervision. This supervision may take a number of different formats the aim being to provide support and reflective opportunities tailored to the teams, their identified learning needs and their speciality. Group supervision may be regular, or may be related to a specific event.
