In order to align our PMVA training with the equivalent course in Mersey Care, all staff members who require this training in the Mid-Mersey division will now be asked to complete personal safety services (PSS) training from 1 June 2021.

All new starters will complete a three-day PSS course as part of their induction while those who need an update will attend a one-day course, but must also complete an e-learning package before attending the course.

The e-learning package is called ‘Personal safety Training to Reduce Restrictive Practice’. Further information about accessing this package will be provided soon.

Both the three-day and update courses will also cover basic life support (BLS) and breakaways.

Non-qualified immediate life support (NQILS) will no longer be provided as a standalone course. This competence will be covered in the BLS part of the PSS course. All standalone BLS sessions are aimed for staff that do not work on inpatient areas.

All one-day updates will also be advertised on OLM from 1 June. Staff who haven’t booked on the one-day update course will need to book on via OLM from 1 June. All staff already booked on one-day updates will not need to do so as their bookings will be made for them by the Learning and Development Team.
