An apprenticeship is a genuine job which incorporates skills development, technical knowledge and practical experience, through a work-based training programme. They are available to anyone over the age of 16 (over 18 for Health Care Assistant ward based posts) and enable learners to demonstrate their competence while gaining a recognised qualification and earning a wage.

All Band 2 vacancies must be considered for apprenticeships in Health and Social Care and Business Administration. This should be carefully considered alongside operational requirements where the role is not appropriate for an apprentice, e.g. STR worker, lone worker roles.

When recruiting an apprentice, please refer to the guidance below which has been developed to support managers when recruiting for apprentice posts.

To advertise for an apprentice, the recruiting manager should enter the vacancy request on Trac for authorisation.

A generic apprentice job description and person specification has been developed for the Trust for both Administration and Healthcare Assistant roles. These are available in the templates section below along with generic vacancy advertisements.
