Disclosure and barring service (DBS) check
If appropriate to the role, candidates will be asked to complete a disclosure and barring service check. Successful candidates will either have a valid DBS check with the Trust or will be required to pay for the cost of the DBS, this will be taken from their salary.
Please note - Apprentices are exempt from paying for a DBS.
There are 3 types of check.
Standard (£27.00)
This checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings.
Enhanced (£44.00)
This includes the same as the standard check plus any additional information held by local police that’s reasonably considered relevant to the workforce being applied for (adult, child or ‘other’ workforce).
‘Other’ workforce means those who don’t work with children or adults specifically, but potentially both. In this case, the police will only release information that’s relevant to the post being applied for.
Enhanced with barred list checks (£44.00)
This is like the enhanced check, but includes a check of the DBS barred lists.
Information obtained through disclosures assists in making an informed decision on whether or not to appoint a prospective employee. The decision rests with the employer, as to whether to employ a person whose DBS Certificate reveals a conviction or other information.
A person’s criminal record will be considered in the light of all the relevant circumstances and judged on a case by case basis.
DBS checks are now completed online via the Trac system, therefore, unless a certificate contains a disclosure, candidates will not have to attend an appointment for verification of the DBS certificate.
