Revalidate by 1st day of the month you are due to revalidate

  • Important - please remember, you must have completed and submitted the revalidation process to the NMC by midnight on the 1st day of the month you are due to revalidate

E.g. If you are due to revalidate in May it must be completed on 1st May

Failure to revalidate will mean Failure to Practice.

Revalidation is a process that all nurses and midwives will need to engage with to demonstrate that they practise safely and effectively throughout their career. It is easy, straightforward and will help nurses and midwives develop as professionals.

All nurses and midwives are currently required to renew their registration every three years. Revalidation will strengthen the renewal process by introducing new requirements that focus on:

  • up-to-date practice and professional development
  • reflection on the professional standards of practice and behaviour as set out in the Code, and
  • engagement in professional discussions with other registered nurses or midwives.

The revalidation process will be entirely online, so it's essential that every registrant gets an NMC Online account and finds out their renewal date.

  1. Make sure you have an NMC Online account. If you don't yet have one, refer to the NMC step-by-step guidance on setting up your account.
  2. Find out your renewal date. This is the date that your registration period will expire. You will need to submit your revalidation application by the first of the month. You can find out your renewal date by checking your NMC online account.
  3. Get familiar with the provisional revalidation guidance
