Here at North West Boroughs Healthcare we offer both internal and external Apprenticeships for existing staff and staff who join us on a fixed term contract.

An apprenticeship is a genuine job which incorporates skills development, technical knowledge and practical experience, through a work-based training programme. They are available to anyone over the age of 16 and enable learners to demonstrate their competence while gaining a recognised qualification and earning a wage.

It can take from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of four years to complete, dependent of the level of the apprenticeship which ranges from Level 2 (5  A-C grade GCSE equivalent) to Level 7 (master’s degree equivalent).

The apprentice must spend at least 20% of their time on off-the-job training, which can include:

  • Reading
  • Studying
  • Coaching on the job
  • Mentoring
  • Reflective pieces
  • Assessor support
  • Supervision
  • Appraisals
  • Tutorials
  • Practical instruction
  • Guidance to complete tasks
  • Mandatory training
  • Online learning/ virtual learning environment

Internal

You train to be fully competent in your chosen occupation and you are on a career path - with future potential for you.  There are a range of Apprenticeship programmes available. To undertake an Apprenticeship you must discuss which Apprenticeship programme you would like to undertake with your line Manager and get their approval. 20% cent of your work time will be required to be off-the-job training, which your Manager will need to support you with. Additionally you can discuss your aspirations during the Personal Development Review process annually.

You will need to complete an Expression of Interest form, which will need to be approved by your Assistant Director.

External

Open to people of all ages, our Apprenticeships combine practical, on-the-job training with academic study so you can complete your Apprenticeship. Individuals will join the Trust on a fixed term contract for a period of at least 12 months.

With a wide range of clinical and non-clinical services, we're able to offer varied and interesting apprenticeship opportunities to external candidates in the following subjects:

  • business administration (available to anyone from aged 16)
  • health and social care (available to anyone from aged 18)
