Due to severe cold weather hitting the UK, the Met Office have issued a Level three alert. There is a 90per cent probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions/heavy snow conditions between 0900 on Thursday 14 January and 0900 on Monday 18 January in North West England.

The Met Office have warned it will be cold with a widespread risk of frost and ice. Snow will continue for a time today, with a further snow event possible on Saturday.
