If you manage/supervise a student who has tested positive for Covid-19, you should notify the Trust’s Track and Trace Team, the Covid-19 Incident Management Team and Practice Education Facilitators.
You should send a contact number for the positive student to the Track and Trace. This will be used to conduct a contact trace.
You must update the Covid-19 Incident Management Team and Practice Education Facilitators of any significant changes in the positive students’ condition. This includes deterioration of physical health, admission into hospital and return to work.
All managers should ensure that students working in their services carry out a risk assessment using the safety assessment and decision (SAAD) tool. They will not be able to access the online form so will have to use a paper copy from the trust PEF team. For students who scored as being high risk using the SAAD tool, the enhanced risk assessment tool should be completed. Guidance on how to carry this out can be found in MBN 391 and the enhanced risk assessments flowchart
Your student must complete 10 days of isolation and have no fever for 48 hours before returning to their placement at North West Boroughs Healthcare. Please see return to work flowchart for further guidance around this process
Please remind all students to pause the contact tracing function on the Track and Trace app when in work and to not give Trust staff details if they test positive for Covid-19. Our Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPC) will carry out contact tracing and complex care risk assessments as appropriate for all staff in our Trust, including students.
Please also ensure that all students are appropriately fit tested when they begin their placement.
Finally, ensure that you obtain contact details for students on placement. This is so our IPC team can get in touch and carry out contact tracing and a complex care risk assessment if they do test positive for Covid-19
