You may have heard the news that the Pfizer BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine has been approved by the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for use in the UK.

This follows months of rigorous clinical trials and a thorough analysis of the data by experts at the MHRA who have concluded that the vaccine has met its strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) will shortly publish its latest advice for the priority groups to receive the vaccine, including care home residents, health and care staff, the elderly and the clinically extremely vulnerable. Vaccination could begin as soon as next week.

The Pfizer vaccine involves two doses given 21 days apart. We will confirm all the practical details about how you will receive your vaccine as soon as possible, as arrangements must take into account requirements such as storage, transportation and how the vaccine is administered.

In the meantime, we’re conscious there is a lot of mixed information and speculation online and in the media, so, over the next couple of days, we will make sure you have access to trusted information and facts about the vaccine to help you make an informed choice when the time comes.

While this is positive news, it’s very important to continue to follow our Trust guidance and national guidance regarding PPE and social distancing to keep you, our patients and your colleagues safe.
